As a former member of the Dust BrothersÆ production team, Cheeba has worked with
an array of artists producing some of the most eclectic sounds. Building on his
efforts on the first Cheebacabra album, Cheeba has returned with Exile In The
Woods. With cover art (Desmond Morris) from the same world as Hieronymous
BoschÆs ôGarden of Earthly Delightsö, this funk fusion extravaganza features the
perfect blend between organic instrumentation (trumpet, sax, violin, guitar) and
synthesizers that the album maintains a natural, yet other worldly appeal. The
abstract nature of this work may have as much to do with CheebaÆs past creative
efforts as it being a natural byproduct of the musicians involved. Whatever the
case may be, the sound created in Exile is so carefree, funky, and effortless
that the true genius of this project may reside in the song selection. With a
band as talented as this, it can only be assumed that the collection of songs
that made it onto this album is only a handful of the songs created during the
recording process. An album that could translate immediately into a great film
score, Exile In The Woods displays the ever growing talent of Cheeba while
taking the listener and the genre of funk fusion into a very new and exciting
direction.
