Anoice are a Tokyo based six piece band who fuse classical
instrumentation with post rock. I hear what you're saying,
nothing new right? Well you wouldn't be far wrong, but
Anoice's fusion of Arvo Part with Radiohead or Rachel's with
Godspeed really works, and beneath all the inspiration there's
a burning heart with a sound all of it's own. The band use
piano and electronics beautifully, obviously having a strong
background in electronic production, and when they introduce
other instrumentation; guitars, drums, violins etc, the sound
fleshes out beautifully. A lazy reviewer might compare Anoice
to fellow Japanese post rockers Mono, but Anoice have far more
restraint and advanced production skill than Mono have ever
even attempted. "Remmings" just about holds together as an
album, this sort of music is difficult to stay with over 40
minutes, but Anoice try very hard not to let "Remmings" go too
over-the-top and hammy. I wouldn't bee too surprised if this
album appeared on Constellation or Temporary Residence, it's a
good first move from an interesting addition to the "new wave"
of contemporary post rock.
