Anima Sound System have never been average, have never been
conformed, have never been upper classy. And their attitude
didn┤t change with ôWe Strike!ö. Without any exaggeration Anima
Sound System is the hottest and most exciting collective the
Hungarian pulsating electronic music scene has to offer. With
this album Anima Sound System has finally transcended the
Hungarian boarders, raising their voices against racism and
homophobia, carrying their invocations for individual freedom
and the underprivileged
victims of our so called free-market economy into the world. In
a world where the gap between rich and poor is increasing,
where the freedom of individuals is getting more and more
restricted, in a world where shareholder interests count more
than human rights and wars are about oil, in this world it┤s
time to stand up and defend! This is the tenor of ôWe Strike!".
Consequently this album is not about a never ending party, the
abhorrently happy teenage life of millionaire heiress buying
herself a pink Ferrari to be en vogue and dressing up like a
high-class hooker to cause the attention she is considering as
respect. This album is about war, unemployment and social
drawbacks, this is album is about the real world we are all
living in! Songs like ôWorld at Warö, ôTechnotoys Bluesö, ôOpen
Your Eyesö or the title track ôWe Strike!ö want to galvanize
us, explaining that we are a part of the system as well,
sometimes without even noticing it.
Anima Sound System succeeds in transferring their messages
flavoured with social ideologies, based on an explosive
fundament of radical mixed influences from entirely different
styles, in a fascinating way. They are on their tightrope walk
between the genres, fusing Dub, Downbeat, Broken Beats with
housy elements, rocking Dance Hall riddims as well as their
Panonian roots. For all sophisticated music lovers out there
who expect admirable music in combination with non-conformist
lyrics based on social criticism, the album ôWe Strike!ö is a
"must have"!
Anima Sound System is one of the most important Hungarian
electronic act which is inspired by Eastern-European folk music
as well. Their first international performance took place in
Vienna at "Soundsfair Festival", (as the only Eastern-European
act in 1996) in companion with acts like Red Snapper, Goldie or
Nightmares on Wax.
After touring the Eastern European cities and capitals - 8 gigs
in Prague only - the Western European promoters have also
become interested in the act - from the "Glasshaus" in Berlin,
to "Divan du Monde" in Paris.
Anima Sound System has played several times in Cargo and
Barbican (London). In Barbican, they played together with Asian
Dub Foundation, since the two groups had been playing together
a lot, even in 2001 they have recorded a song together, titled
"Enough!". Anima Sound System has played in Madrid, Barcelona,
Brussels, Krakkow, the Womex in Essen, or in "B2", the famous
concert venue in Moscow.
In the "House of Worldcultures" in Berlin, they have played
together with Transglobal Underground, who have also done a
remix for them besides De-Phazz and Terry Lee Brown Junior.
"We Strike!" features international artists like Heidi Levo,
Jeremy Thompson and the fastest speaking MC JC 001, who was
working with George Clinton and Dave Stewart before. The album
features also one of the most important current scientist Noam
Chomsky and one of the biggest dulcimer player Miklos Lukacs,
colleague of the famous lyricist Peter E÷tv÷s.
The new concert setup of Anima Sound System consists more
singers and electronic- and folk musicians.
It is extremely dynamic and dancing - the program of their show
is based on the material of the new album...
