     Lee Dorsey epitomized the loose, easygoing charm of New Orleans R&B
     perhaps more than any other artist of the 60s. Working with
     legendary Crescent City producer/writer Allen Toussaint, Dorsey
     typically offered good-time party tunes with a playful sense of
     humor and a loping, funky backbeat. Even if he's remembered chiefly
     for the signature hit "Working In A Coalmine", it was a remarkably
     consistent and winning combination for the vast majority of his
     recording career.

     "Holy Cow: The Very Best Of Lee Dorsey" is a nice, remastered
     single-disc anthology featuring the best-known cuts and biggest pop
     hits of New Orleans R&B and soul singer Dorsey, one of the Crescent
     City's best comic/novelty artists and a fine traditional R&B
     vocalist as well. All selections are original Sansu, Fury Records
     and Valiant Recordings. The title track, "Working In A Coal Mine",
     and "Ride Your Pony" are superb songs that use the second line
     rhythm and boast outstanding arrangements, clever lyrics, and great
     vocals.
