Written, played, sung and recorded by Orval himself on his
12-tracks recorder, the album is a great collection of
psychedelic nuggets. Accoustic guitars, organs, flutes,
vintage electronic bizarreries, fine male and female (kumi
and ZoΘ of The Konki Duet) voices creates a unique blend of
oneiric folk ballads ands epic homemade space rock sagas.
Accomplished at the end of some little panel of eternity,
Orval Carlos SibeliusÆ first self-titled record is a joke,
and such for quite a number of reason. First and foremost,
because this miraculous debut album is not really a debut
album - Axel, who hides himself behind this mysterious
alias, as if it didnÆt really matter, used to electrify the
hearts of the French underground a few years ago, using the
Snark moniker (he released two albums and half a dozen tapes
which have almost become legendary). Secondly, because
behind its hippy looks of soft wooden melancholia, lies a
volcano of imagination, an explosive and foliate maze which
possesses the guts to look into the eyes of the mad songs of
Kevin Ayers. Eventually, because, even if it is dedicated to
all the slackers of the world, those that dwell in
indolence, expecting miracles to happen only playing with the
tips of their fingers, this record encloses little gems of
almost malevolent wits, virtuosity, and approximately as
many crazy, impudently strange constructions of arranging, as
simply irresistible melodies.
