Here we GO. The new album by Brian Transeau aka BT. RNS brought you the
preview and here's the store final which boasts 11 exciting tracks from
one of the best, if not the best, dance music composer around. Even though
his last album ESCM was more varied stylewise and a bit more experimental,
Movement in still life is much more, if you will, mature album. It almost
seems like BT has finally found his own sound, which shows in the overall
feeling of the album.
The experience starts with hiphop influenced material,
which BT tried earlier this year in a vinyl release under a different name.
Even though there's some turntable madness the trademark sound is still
there to keep the album from sidetracking too much. Madskillz-Mic Chekka
sounds very much like Leftfield's collaboration track with Afrika Bambaataa,
Afrika Shox. Wonder which one was made first. Second track is a collaboration
with Sasha, probably the hottest DJ at the moment. Fourth tune is made with
Tsunami One and this one is the tune that was released earlier. After that
the sound changes gradually to the of Mercury And Solace, the single that
came out some time ago. Jan Johnston is perfect on the vocals and the mix
on the album is much better than the radio edit, that was heard on the single.
After that there's another GREAT track that's going to be one of the single
cuts for sure. Jan Johnston sings on Dreaming as well. After that we have
another guest star, which many will recognize; DJ Rap performs on the Giving
Up The Ghost which is another nice dance tune. Then comes the biggest tune
BT has made along with Flaming June. Godspeed was, and still is, one of the
biggest club tunes of 1998-1999. After that there's a collaboration tune
with someone called Paul Van Dyk, some people might recognize him :)
This tune is going to be huge either this year or in 2000. Except a load of
remixes, this tune is the bomb! After all these progressive dance/house/
whatever tracks, there's still two tunes left, which are a bit different.
Running Down The Way Up features Hybrid, and surprisingly the song starts
with an acoustic guitar and the serene voice of Kirsty Hawkshaw. Very
beautiful. The last song, Satellite, is the perfect ending song, with
acoustic guitar again and also acoustic, live played drums by Scott
Frassetto. This is also the perfect showcase of Brian Transeau's multiple
talent. He plays the guitar and bass and also sings.
Conclusion is that this is without doubt is probably the most important
dance album this year. Enjoy and REMEMBER! If you like it
