Sixteen years after their revolutionary TV miniseries "Tanner
'88" cast a scathing eye on American politics, director Robert
Altman and writer Garry Trudeau present a four-part follow-up,
shot during the 2004 presidential race. Michael Murphy
reprises his starring role as Jack Tanner, a former
congressman whose bid for the White House ended at the 1988
Democratic convention. Now Tanner is the subject of a
documentary film directed by his daughter Alex (Cynthia Nixon,
"Sex in the City") focusing on the toll paid by failed
contenders.
Alex decides to take her film in a new direction, primarily
east to the Democratic National convention in Boston. Now her
big problem is where will she get the money.
