fertile ground classify their music as urban world jazz, a blend
of jazz, reggae, soul, hip hop, latin, and other world rhythms.
the quartet were virtually unknown outside the east coast of the
u.s. until 24-7 records boss brian hurst discovered them in the
states and released the spiritual war album in england last
spring. the quartet consists of james collins (piano, keyboards
trumpet) , marcus asante (drums), ekendra das (percussion) and
navasha daya (lead vocals). dj's like gilles peterson, patrick
forge and russ dewbury immediately picked up on fertile ground,
and indeed it is on russ dewbury's label that this 12" is
released.
this remix 12" precedes the release of their album 'perception'
on the counterpoint label, which is a collection of songs from
their albums 'field songs' (1998) and spiritual war (1999).
japan's jazztronik are on remix duties as well as brighton's
nick the record and glasgow's blueboy who collaborate on the
oneness of two mix.
