yet again, shuya and yoshihiro okino deliver an ep of solid
uptempo dancefloor jazz action. the okino brothers have been
known to magically revamp anything into a blistering
brazilian-inspired bomb and their reputation is rapidly starting
to grow with their list of remix duties for sandra cross, fauna
flash, cosmic village, nicola conte and the list is still
expanding. not only are they members of kyoto jazz massive but
shuya also is a member of the electronic group cosmic village and
they both own their own percolating label/shop in japan called
especial records which has been a sore spot for many like-minded
music lovers.
many will recognise many of the tracks from this ep like "eclipse"
which was kjm"s first single for compost and "substream" which
first appeared on shinichi osawa's "sakura hills disco 3000" for
his realeyes imprint. however, the true gem is revealed within
the highly sought-after collaboration with bebel gilberto called
"the view from her room". this is their first attempt at a
fully-fledged vocal since their acid jazz days and it turns the
scale over completely. this song also appeared on a sony japan
compilation called "soul scramble" that had exclusive material by
some of the japanese urban/dance artists like makoto (with lori
fine (coldfeet)), dev large (with junpei shiina), pushim (with dj
premier), suiken (with bird), satoshi tomiie (with chara), shinchi
osawa (with hiroshi fujiwara and crystal kay) and more and will be
included in the boys forthcoming album for compost in the new
year.
