We don`t pull out trees - we plant new ones! The Family Tree is the
second project on Compost Records. As is well known, the apple
dosen't fall far from the tree: The Family Tree are from Munich. It
is the first and only project from Munich, that is involved in
ambient-rare groove, mellow jazz with funky backbeats as many of
London-based labels like Dorado, Soul Jazz, you name it.
In their stem are engraved the soul-, funk- and jazz- sounds of the
70's, 80's and 90's, their roots are heroes like Roy Ayers, Herbie
Hancock, Curtis Mayfield, James Brown, The JBs, Donald Byrd, Grant
Green or Lonnie Liston Smith, their branches tower, with words of
Sun Ra, to the other side of the sun. Now in springtime the tree is
     full of little buds.

The heads behind The Family Tree are Jan Krause and Max
Weissenfeldt. Jan Krause is a professional studioengineer, he
co-produced A Forest Mighty Black, as well as doing a remix of
Pressure Drop's "You're Mine" or MC Solaar's "Noveau Western". He
is also a famous bass-player. Max Weissenfeldt is a student and
Munich`s one and only "funky drummer". Beside that, The Family Tree
is an open project for guest-musicians.

The guests: fender rhodes/D6-player Till Sahm is a classical
trained pianoplayer, he has played at many jazz-festivals, and also
the solo for A Forest Mighty Black. Diana Darouiche is a
professional session- and studiosinger, singing in two local
jazzensembles, and she took the floor at the Montreux Jazz Festival
     many times.

"Hang On To Your Pride" is a song for all women! Diana Dirouiche
dedicated it to all black women in the world! "Moodorama" is moody,
     modern mindfunk!
