Quinto disco del grupo madrileno de metal Hamlet, lanzado en el
2000. La banda continua en la senda del nue metal mostrado en el
anterior album, pero ya sin los elementos harcore de anteriores
obras; a su vez, dejan de lado, parcialmente, las letras
reivindicativas, para hablar sobre temas mas personales.
Hamlet took another twist to their sound in this album. More mid-
paced, groovy or even more stoner are the elements emphasized in
this cd. There are no fast songs, so forget about it if you are
looking for thrash.
The first song, (El Mejor Amigo de Nadie), sets the tone for most of
the songs in the album. Starting with a bass line along with the
drums, introducing Molly's voice after a while, it explodes into a
really heavy and groovy riff, which is played palm-muted when the
voice appears, adding more crunch and rythym to the riff, leading to
an aggresive chorus. The mid-section introduces a mid-paced post-
thrash riff, preceding a riff ala Pantera taking hard-rock elements
and fusing them with modern metal ideas.
┐Por que?, the third track, is the slowest and heaviest tune this
band has ever composed. With guitars tuned in B, the groove is
massive, and Molly's screams really complement the music as well as
the social lyrics.
"No soy igual" and "Perdoname" set themselves apart from the general
style of the album. The first being a song that could piss off most
troo metal heads, and could be related directly to Deftones'
influence.
The second song mentioned is almost minimalistic in its composition,
strong yet portraying the solitude of and sadness Molly felt at
losing a good friend. The most intimate song of the album,
comparable to a ballad.
The single for this album was the song "Denuncio a Dios".
As individual artists, each member highly contributes to the final
result. The bass fills up many spaces (when needed) and is clearly
aubdible and the drums are tight and heavy. The guitars style range
from metalcore to post-thrash riffs ala Burn my Eyes.
Molly, the singer, is one of the best metal singers in Spain, both
capable of singing melodically as well as shouting with conviction
and anger. Some people might relate this album to other styles not-
so-metal. However, maturity is a grade, and these are no kids.
The production is crystal clear in every instrument, with the genius
of Colin Richardson behind the personal sound that himself and
Hamlet have created over the years.
