Release Notes:
--------
Grab your inhaler, thereÆs Smog rolling in. ItÆs been a couple of years since
the last release from the man behind the band, Bill Callahan, and thatÆs quite a
while for the prolific songwriter. Making up for lost time, this spring will see
the release of A River AinÆt Too Much To Love, the bandÆs 12th full-length LP
and the follow-up to 2003Æs Supper.
Along with bass player Connie Lovatt (of Containe) and drummer Jim White (of The
Dirty Three), Callahan will reportedly have a bevy of guests on hand for the
album. Thor Harris will lend his percussion skills to the music, while Travis
Weller will contribute fiddle and SmogÆs Drag City label-mate Joanna Newsom will
take a seat on the piano bench. The album was self-produced by Callahan and
mastered at the worldÆs most famous studio, Abbey Road.
No word on whether Callahan is still putting his band name between a set of
parentheses ù a la (smog) ù to put the emphasis on the music not the musician,
but it wonÆt be a long wait to find out. A River AinÆt Too Much To Love is due
out May 23...
