It's time to lace up those shell toes, because the Scratch Soundtrack is
taking us back to the old school! With the most innovative and
'scratchingly' fresh combinations on the ones and twos, the Scratch
Soundtrack flawlessly chronicles the turntable movement from its creation
  in the early 70's on.
As an avid fan of the current hip-hop movement/scene, the turntables are
just something I always assumed existed. The film Scratch, however,
reminds us of times without turntable beats and takes us back to when the
turntable art was just being born. The film documents the creation and
history of the turntable, and the movie's soundtrack acts as a bible to
the art, telling the story of its evolution, and reminding us how
immensely essential this instrument is both to and for hip-hop.

This CD is much more raw than us current hip-hop heads are used to. It
takes a few minutes to warm up to, and I will admit it is strange to
listen through an entire hip-hop CD without hearing Missy Elliot coo in
the background at least once. However, once you ease into this amazingly
historical soundtrack, you will surely be satisfied. While every track
serves its purpose and delivers the goods, I especially like track number
ten, which is merely a fifteen second interlude track. The interlude is
so ironic, and provides the basic theme to the soundtrack and to the
turntable art form in general. We hear a random man's voice: "Turntables
were originally something you walked away from when you put a record on,
you know? You never thought to sit there and look at it and say 'what
else can I do with this?' You were never supposed to touch it, your
parents were like 'don't touch the turntables, don't touch the record,
  you'll ruin it!'"

Aside from fun interludes like the one mentioned above, the soundtrack is
jam-packed with appearances by big name scratchers, such as: Jazzy Jay,
GrandWizard Theodore, MixMasterMike (yes, of the Beastie Boys), DJ Craze,
Afrika Bambaataa, Qbert, Rob Swift, NuMark, and many others. Some of the
artists mentioned above, (along with Babu, Faust and Shortee) collaborated
to create the CD's most obvious (and illest) standout, a revamped version
of Herbie Hancock and Grandmixer DXT's "Rockit."

No doubt, if you're a hip-hop fan, this CD is a must have for you
  collection!
