        :: Release Notes:
        ::
        :: Day and Age pride themselves on their lo-fi sensibilities,
        :: and the San Diego trio stay true to their roots with Via
        :: Moderna. It's a live album, apparently an attempt to capture
        :: the band's on-stage energy. However, the live context does
        :: nothing for Day and Age's vocals, which hover somewhere
        :: between The Wonder Stuff and Perry Farrell's high-pitched
        :: whine. It's clear, then, that Day and Age have to rely on the
        :: music to make their mark with listeners. In that sense,
        :: they're fairly effective: standouts "How Sweet Does Your
        :: Sugar Taste" and "You Are Not U.S." rock with undeniably
        :: frenzied energy. The highlight, however, is "Let's Write A
        :: Story About", an intriguingly visceral play on the common
        :: "broken heart" trope: "Let's write a story about love / and
        :: loudly crack open the sternum / plot device infections of the
        :: vena cava inferior / this left ventricle is weak / do a
        :: triple bypass to sustain this facsimile."
        ::
        :: While the album's raw production and occasionally grating
        :: vocals may give some listeners pause, discerning rock fans
        :: will find Via Moderna full of charm and hooks, as well as a
        :: lot of heart (try not to get any on you!).
