"who's the new bad character in town?" quasimoto is down with the lootpack. he
appears on the lootpack's debut lp "soundpieces: tha antidote!" and strikes a
peculiar chord with every beat he even speaks on. just as xzibit proclaims to be the
dysfunctional member of the alkaholik family, quas is without a doubt the wild child
(no pun intended) of the lootpack crew.
the album is appropriate titled "the unseen" for a myriad of reasons. number one
would have to be the fact that i never saw this lp coming. the stylistic and musical
asthetic captured on this album defies an accurate description. not that i expected
the same old same from anything with the stones throw logo on it, but this is
ridiculous.

be not deceived, quasimoto isn't a battle rapper like his lootpack brethren. while
disses, weed smoke, sex, and crime appear on the album, they only make up about 10%
to 15% of the lyrics on the album, so i'm hard-pressed to label him according to
those topics either. the freestyle feel is present just like madlib and wildchild,
and punchlines season the lyrics heavily.

it's extremely difficult to get accustomed to the production on the album enough to
study the lyrics. simultaneously the lyrics, voice, and vocal samples can compound to
the complexity of the beats. in other words:
"quasimoto crew, we make you wanna press rewind..."
imagine humpty dropping a solo album and shock g. producing it. if you're a serious
d.u. fan you'll understand how tight yet strange that album will be. i sincerely
believe this project is a safari deep into the tropical rainforests of madlib. i'm
convinced when he put these beats together he explored and expressed things that he
restrained from the lootpack album for the sake of dj romes and wildchild. i think
"the unseen" is all madlib without explanation or apology. listen to "bluffing" very
carefully, you'll understand what i mean.

basing, talking about that ghost you're chasin' "

i realized after several listens (and while writing this review) that quasimoto
dabbles in many familiar topics. the production is off the wall and treated as though
it's normal. the actual word choice for discussing these topics is out there as well.
"low class conspiracy" is the closest he ever comes to a "normal" hip-hop song:
"police pulling us over for no reason
searching the car,like it's n***a hunting season
yeah, around... asking about where's the pound...
where's the gun, are y'all n***as on the run?
you got warrants? y'all ready for some informin'?
that's how they be cracking, it seems like they be actin'
except it's real life, rushing up your residence
searching your crib, man they can't find no evidence"

be warned: this isn't standard headknock. this isn't ride-out music. this isn't mix-
tape flavor. this isn't east coast bump, nor is west coast bang. it's strictly
another madlib invasion.
