Australian artist Inch-Time (aka Stefan Panczak) caused
quite a stir with his "Icicles and Snowflakes" 7'' some
months ago and this debut full-length "As the Moon Draws
Water" has been anticipated eagerly in many quarters.
After a short intro the album starts in earnest on "Almond
Eyes", bringing to mind Metamatics at his best with crisp
4/4 beats, plucked bass and wistful nostalgic memories;
slow dance music for melancholic robots that works a treat.
"Cloud Hidden", meanwhile, is an oriental sounding
instrumental affair with flutes and mandolin taking centre
stage - an odd transition which adds depth to the album.
Panczak has tried to distil a great deal of influences in
"As the Moon Draws Water" and this adds a lot of scope to
something which could have so easily been lumped in with
countless other electronica albums.
Patching up fragments of jazz, world music, techno and of
course idm, Inch-Time often sounds like Murcof but with an
added sense of michief, something which adds a deep breath
of fresh air...
