rob g and demus much slept on two banks of four album from a couple
of years back is given new life by a varied and progressive cast of
producers that each contribute a mix of their favourite tune, with
the utmost respect, care and attention give to each one.
there are two very different but equally compelling version of
'street lullaby', firstly herbert's version tweaks the original
into a spiralling percussive beast with a beautiful piano and
violin breakdown midway through before picking it up again while
four tet chops up the vocal, adds a rumbling b-line and skippy
drums for some twisted 2 step pressure. attica blues turn in a
quality re-working of 'last chance' that wouldn't sound out of
place on the dancefloor of co-op on a sunday evening. other
highlights include anjali's string-laden take on 'theme de la tete'
and maas' pulsating version of 'skyline over rooftops'.
the best is saved until the end - where the two new tracks, a
sublime cover of supergrass' 'movin' featuring valerie etienne and
'homegirl' via for tune of the year. this is an essential purchase
and respect is most definitely (over) due.
