This album is probably my favorite work of Mental Home, even though all
their output (except some of the weird parts off of Upon the Shores of
Inner Seas) is top notch. I feel that the production really works in
favor of the band here, fully binging the darkness and depression of the
songs to a new level. Sure, it's not a very clear production, but who
cares? The guitars are really prominent in the mix, and they often
remind me of "Malleus Maleficarum"-era Pestilence, especially their
thrashy sound. Throw in a few keyboards and dark sections with really
tasteful guitar solos and you've got a winning formula. I don't know if
this is still available, but if you're into really dark metal and
Pestilence, you should definatly get a copy of this. It rules! Two of
the bonus tracks sound like "Schizophrenia"-era Sepultura and don't
really have anything to do with the rest of the songs, but they're
interesting.

Well, not really - but in some places the similarity is quite striking.
Here is a pretty interesting demo that combines power, speed, and thrash
metal. It's difficult to categorise as all the songs sound pretty
different from one another.
1672 Inquisition is pretty much straight up speed metal. If you've ever
heard Kruiz's "It Has Arrived", you'll immediately recognise the
similarity. "In Dream" continues with more of the same at times, while
it also has some weird interludes... kinda going between heavy and light
stuff alternating.
"My Final Words" has some monster thrash riffs, reminiscent of Overkill
"The Years of Decay" at times. Pretty decent. "Expiration" is possibly
the best song on here - very nice power/thrash, not quite as fast as
some of the others, but the riff work is pretty damn good.
"Funeral Service" starts off with a little intro, before moving into a
riff that sounds like something Dave Mustaine would create, before going
into a midpaced doomish power metal track, something that Candlemass
could've done. "Out of Picture" is more speed metal, with some great
riffs that definitely have the "Kruiz 1" album vibe to them. There
aren't nearly as much solos, but the riffs are pretty similar, including
some more thrashy riffs in the middle, similar to the Kruiz song
"Possessed".
"Cemetery Gates" is more melodic power metal, with far more lead guitar,
and "Keep Silence" is a slower, more bludgeoning number with some faster
parts, to close out the album.
Quite an interesting album. Oh yes, being a demo, the production isn't
all that great, and if you don't like Russian accents, stay away!
Otherwise - go find it!
