:: The Gangsters of Love are two singers and musicians: Louis
:: Janelle (guitar, drums, percussions and inventions ) and
:: Gilles Bonenfant (harp and guitar). Small "gang" you would
:: say, but one that sounds like "a full band". After having
:: played on many stages in MontrΘal with various bands, the
:: Gangsters of Love begin the year strongly with the launching
:: of their first cd.

:: Louis Janelle plays the guitar while beating the drums (like
:: Joe Hill Louis did) spicing the whole thing ingeniously with
:: various percussions. He is the whole rhythm section by
:: himself! Inspired by the older bluesmen's hand-made
:: instruments, he often brings us back to the first times of
:: urban blues. Gilles Bonenfant's harmonica is also highlighted
:: here, sometimes electric, sometimes acoustic, his playing
:: always true to the melodic and rhythmic tradition inherited
:: from the pioneers of the genre. He sometimes switches to
:: guitar, giving his partner more space to solo. This makes it
:: possible for the Gangsters to explore many fields.

:: The Gangsters of Love play mostly Louisiana Swamp Blues (Lazy
:: Lester, Slim Harpo, Guitar Gable, etc.), Chicago Blues (Muddy
:: Waters, Little Walter, Willie Dixon, etc.) and also Swing,
:: and Zydeco. The search for different rhythms and moods is one
:: of the musical concerns of the group. Inspired by this great
:: diversity of styles and grooves, the two musicians offer a
:: quite personal and original interpretation of old school
:: blues.
