Release Notes:

This 2CD compilation plunders some of the best
examples of Asha's rock-friendly canon from the
archives of Saregama Records - formerly EMI India,
formerly The Gramophone Company Of India, formerly
HMV (India). This means that it doesn't include
many great 196Os and 1970s Polydor tracks and some
fine recent hits on the Universal, Sony, Venus and
Tips labels, not to mention her unorthodox pop
collaborations with the likes of Stephen Luscombe,
Boy George, Apache Indian and the Southall bhangra
kings Alaap. But, by some distance, it is for
Saregama that Asha has recorded most of lier most
remarkable music over thΘ last 60 or so years. CD1
showcases the heaviest big band swing and rock and
roll material that she recorded in the 196Os and
1970s for RD and SD Burman, for OP Nayyar, for the
Rajasthani funk brothers Kalyanji and Anandji Shah,
for Sonik Omi and for Laxmikant-Pyarelal.
CDS explores some of Asha's forays into Indian
classical music along with her recent disco, techno
and ambient works, including many more
collaborations with the great RD Burman but also
featuring work with AR Rahman - the Madrasi
maverick who has been Indian cinema's most
significant composer since Pancham. There are also
songs with Rajesh Roshan, Khaiyyam, Jatin-Lalit and
thΘ classical musicians Ali Akbar Khan and Nusrat
Pateh Ali Khan.
