The new album "Classics" is scheduled to hit stores on
August 22nd.
In most cases we find thereÆs a fundamental difference
in approach to music between rockers that choose to
grab a guitar and those who prefer synths and
samplers. While the first group appears to be
fascinated by the concepts of "rocking out" (read:
playing loud), and "looking cool" (yes the human/6
string combo is still the unsurpassed rock icon), the
latter often seems more interested in "having you
dance" (the focus shifts on rhythm rather than volume)
and "sounding clever" (through the use of interesting
sounds and arrangement). For some reason, itÆs really
difficult to find bands that can succesfully mix these
two elements.
Brooklyn duo Ratatat definitely belongs to the latter
category. Their second release, after the critically
acclaimed self-titled 2004 debut, is set to see the
light on August 15 on XL records. If you are into
their electronic melting pot, you might want to buy a
ticket for their live show at the Bowery, scheduled
for September 5 - we heard good things about their
