██▓▓ 1997. The labelÆs musical orientation is open, most ██▓▓
██▓▓ important being originality, abstraction and ██▓▓
██▓▓ contemporary relevance. ██▓▓

██▓▓ WARE has released 61 EPs and 14 albums (as of August ██▓▓
██▓▓ 2005), by Ziggy Kinder, Novox, Hans Nieswandt, Markus ██▓▓
██▓▓ Gⁿntner, Dominik Eulberg, Decomposed Subsonic and ██▓▓
██▓▓ Coloma. Remixes for Ware were produced by the Gebr. ██▓▓

██▓▓ What's your musical back ground? Did you play in ██▓▓
██▓▓ bands or were you a DJ first? How did you get into ██▓▓
██▓▓ making dance music? ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ Oh yes, I played in several bands from the late 70ies ██▓▓
██▓▓ on, so my musical background is very broad - from ██▓▓
██▓▓ 60ies/70ies rock, punk/wave, avantgarde rock and free ██▓▓
██▓▓ jazz to all forms of dance music. Actually it was Hip ██▓▓
██▓▓ Hop that led me to produce dance music, I fell in ██▓▓
██▓▓ love with it on the dance floor. I took the decision ██▓▓
██▓▓ to djay when I felt the desire to get back out in ██▓▓
██▓▓ front of the public - and I didn't want to perform ██▓▓
██▓▓ "live" with a computer. ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ When did you set up Ware? Why did you set it up? Is ██▓▓
██▓▓ it hard work keeping a house label going? ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ I started WARE in 1997 to have a platform for my own ██▓▓
██▓▓ productions. Finding a record company is always a ██▓▓
██▓▓ hard and complicated procedure. Having your own label ██▓▓
██▓▓ gives you more freedom - it's really good for your ██▓▓
██▓▓ nerves! On the other hand it is sometimes time ██▓▓
██▓▓ consuming to keep it going, but at least the work I ██▓▓
██▓▓ do is for me and for no employer or other label. ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ What part of Germany are you based in? ██▓▓

██▓▓ I have lived in Cologne for 14 years now. ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ Have you released much material on other labels? ██▓▓

██▓▓ I started on John Acquaviva's Definitive Label in ██▓▓
██▓▓ 1994 (the house outlet of plus-8 rec. in the 1st part ██▓▓
██▓▓ of the 90ies), then released stuff on various labels, ██▓▓
██▓▓ for example Force Tracks/Force Inc., Kompakt, Blaou ██▓▓
██▓▓ Sounds and now the reworked version of "Hey Little ██▓▓
██▓▓ Girl" on Superstar Recordings, which has also come ██▓▓
██▓▓ out in England on Manifesto Records. ██▓▓

██▓▓ How many EPs/ albums have you put out on Ware? ██▓▓

██▓▓ All in all we have released 6 albums (3 compilations ██▓▓
██▓▓ called "warenkorb #1-3", Decomposed Subsonic's "Blaue ██▓▓
██▓▓ L÷wen", my own album "Love & Business" and Coloma's ██▓▓
██▓▓ "Silverware") and twenty-eight 12 inches on Ware. ██▓▓

██▓▓ Do you think the Ware sound is similar to a lot of ██▓▓
██▓▓ the minimal/dub house coming from Germany at the ██▓▓
██▓▓ moment? ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ There are certainly parallels to other labels - we do ██▓▓
██▓▓ talk about a 'sound of cologne' after all. On the ██▓▓
██▓▓ other hand, to me the term 'minimal house' is more a ██▓▓
██▓▓ description of the sound than a real definition of ██▓▓
██▓▓ the structure of the music. Most of my music isn't ██▓▓
██▓▓ minimal any more, it's really complex, full of ██▓▓
██▓▓ variations and much more structured than a lot of so ██▓▓
██▓▓ called minimal house/techno. In the end there are a ██▓▓
██▓▓ lot of differences between Ware music and other ██▓▓
██▓▓ minimal productions. ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ Would you agree that the Ware sound is more ██▓▓
██▓▓ experimental, more adventurous than the typical ██▓▓
██▓▓ German dub/minimal house sound? ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ I don't like the word 'experimental'. I think there ██▓▓
██▓▓ are not so many experiments left to do at the moment ██▓▓
██▓▓ - or better put: they don't happen. Though I'm sure ██▓▓
██▓▓ they will in the future. Our music is modern and has ██▓▓
██▓▓ a certain originality and up-to-dateness. But ██▓▓
██▓▓ 'experimental' is something else. This is my opinion ██▓▓
██▓▓ about 99.9% of all electronic music of today, by the ██▓▓
██▓▓ way. The last real "new" music was drum'n'bass, and ██▓▓
██▓▓ this happened nearly a decade ago! ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ The vinyl album contains an exclusive edit of Hey ██▓▓
██▓▓ Little Girl which is slightly different to the CD ██▓▓
██▓▓ version. Not that much a difference, of course this ██▓▓
██▓▓ is for the collectors. ██▓▓
