San Francisco's The Dead Seal (Derrick Boyd) has been making a name
for himself in the music scene after retireing from a successful
professional snowboarding career. On this feel good summer records
he comes correct with the purple vibe wihle adding plenty of his
own personal touches throughout. Brennan Green, never one to miss
out on some good work clocks in and shakes things up his way. On
the flip, 40 Thieves make their official remix debut in raw,
unbridled form and hit the mark.
Side A kicks off with "Borrd of the Future", the original mix sung
& performed by Bay Area prodigy Derrick "Dead Seal" Boyd, who's
been making waves on Coco Machete sub label COMA. HArd 4 on the
floor with frenetic polyrhythms, wacked out sound fx & a great
vocalàedgy, bold, chilling yet positive at the same time. Next up
is our main man Brennan Green (Balihu/Chinatown/Modal/Rush Hour)
taking up the chores. Crazy nu disco business seeing Brennan
flexing his musical muscle adding his own slabby bass, real drums &
guitar, then the disco bleeps & twisted vocal processing along with
the laidback arrangement & surprise left turn at the end that will
leave the most jaded dancefloor ninja shook up. On the flip 40
Thieves turns in a strong remix as well. Strong drum programming,
teaser bass build, nice distorted Rhodes joining in on the way & in
jumps some sleazy synth work & the mother of all nasty acid lines.
