224’s EP presents like an electroacoustic demonstration or sound
collages pulling inspiration from Drumfunk and Free Jazz. Abrasive
noise switching through filters abruptly starts the opening tack,
Prológus. The noise is followed by low frequency drones swelling into
higher pitched tones and samples. The piece finishes with jazz
drumming fading in.
Gentle Pressure on my Left Hand opens with layers of inharmonic
sounds, drones, and noise until transitioning to periodic beeps and
then to a distorted conversation. These elements are replaced by a
repeating drum loop which crossfades into sparse field-recording
impact sounds. The drum loop returns a second time hinting at a Drum
and Bass Progression.
The title track, Water Study, has a pleasant theme throughout. It
still has a heavy amount of distortion and strong play on repetition.
Despite the periodic pattern of the synth and sub, the track has a
clear ambient quality.
