SILENCE KIT revolutionized Russian indie rock and
captured critical attention by intertwining elements
of a variety music genres from the past two decades
including kraut-rock, noise-rock, avant-garde,
classical minimalism, psychedelic, ambient and space
music. Formed in Moscow in 2002, the group began when
guitarist Boris Belov, drummer Grigory Aleksanyan,
and guitarist/vocalist Fyodor Dmitriev û the core
members of indie-pop formation DAIRY HIGH û started
experimenting with the composition, sound textures,
and production techniques to create an original blend
of their own. Next aboard were keyboardist Andrei
Gavrilov, and bassist Sergei Bogatov. The five-piece
immediately went on to a studio to implement new
ideas into the recording practice. Soon the material
was rehearsed and recorded, they made stage-debut,
and after a series of successful club-gigs became
touted as a local phenomenon in moody
experimental-rock circles.
