| Rong Records is the bi-costal brainchild of Ben Cook and Jason |
| Drummond (DJ Spun), two lads mad on the sounds of disco, drums |
| and dub. You might have heard of them. If not you've almost |
| definitely felt the unbelievable impact this small, yet |
| inventive, label has had on dance music over the last two years ù |
| disco cut-ups, dubbed-out house, soulful & offbeat, downtempo & |
| balearic ù all the many things Rong has been labeled. |
| |
| Though before we get into that, let's backtrack. Not surprisingly |
| DJ Spun got his start playing in San Francisco bands, sharing the |
| stage with such punk luminaries as the Dead Kennedy's, Black Flag |
| and Social Distortion. It wasn't long before a growing interest |
| in rap music put him behind the turntables and in front of a |
| crowd in 1987, his first gig an opening slot for Kurtis Blow in |
| San Jose. From there he went on to his now legendary nights at |
| Club FX. Spun became a central figure in the Bay Area underground |
| party scene, the first California jock to help forge the amalgam |
| of house, techno, rare grooves and funky breaks that came to be |
| known as "the West Coast sound." He held residencies at such |
| seminal West Coast parties as A Rave Called Sharon, Funky Techno |
| Tribe and The Gathering. In countless guest spots and at his own |
| infamous throw-downs, he continues to host and play alongside |
| some of the world's best known DJ's, bands and producers. |

| In the studio writing and producing, Spun's first release back in |
| 1994, 'This Is A Shout Going Out', has been recognized San |
| Francisco break beat classic. Since then he has managed to |
| explore an extremely eclectic array of sounds; from teaming up |
| with Eric Duncan, Danny Wang and old Arthur Russell guitarist |
| Steven Hall for the How & Why 12" Cruisin' to remixing likeminded |
| fellas like Tim Love Lee, Tussle and Crack & Speed's Mr. |
| Negative. Oh and finding time to put together that landmark LP |
| with Ben Cook, as the dubbed out disco duo Thick as Thieves, for |
| Idjut Boys' record label NOID. (So mysterious that some say this |
| release is actually cut-ups of rare works by disco super-group, |
| 'Emerson, Terraldi and Fuquido', plundered by the Idjuts |
| themselves and handed down to Cook & Spun!) |

| Back to Rong Music... Having already featured such far a field |
| artists as jazz great Chico Hamilton, Mudd, Rub 'n' Tug, Ray |
| Mang, Prins Thomas and Chicken Lips, the guys are now getting |
| ready to raise the quality of contemporary dance music production |
| even further with forthcoming releases due from peeps like Carlos |
| Hernandez and Quiet Village. Not to mention having just put out |
| this double mix cd compilation of all releases to date! |

| organizer of NYC's best Summertime Party ù P.S.1 / MoMA's |
| prestigious Warm Up Music Series and tours the world spreading |
