shantel is back! after an artistic break of almost two years,
during which the man from frankfurt travelled the world with his
record case, we finally have some new music from him again. shantel
recorded a handful of new tracks in the catacombs of the babylon
central studio, in frankfurt, and the clemantin secret
laboratories, in tel aviv - on-screen as well as in the session
room.
shantel's sound has become more stereophonic and more transparent.
live instruments have been combined with sample trickery, adding a
subtlety of nuance to shantel's style diversity: on side a, after
the hip-swinging, jazzy latin shaker "backwood" comes "chrystal", a
funky, rocking dance floor live-wire in the house genre. on the
b-side, you'll find dubby beats and abstract afro-funk. a
wonderfully complete ep - we're looking forward to shantel's next
album, which is due to be released in spring 2001.
