following on the heels of the excellent 'el capitalismo foraneo'
single from earlier this year comes this truly awesome release from
this highly talented french / south american outfit. 'triptico' is
already being played out by the likes of peter kruder, rainer
truby, gilles peterson, etc. and is a genre defying dancefloor
monster that utilizes instrumentation never normally heard in a
club environment. accordions normally associated with french cafes
are mixed up with funky guitar riffs, jazz piano, swirling violins
and gorgeous beats in a fantastic arrangement that flows for nearly
ten minutes. meanwhile on the flip, their downtempo take on the
classic gato barbieri composed 'last tango in paris' is beautiful.
after only two releases the gotan project have established
themselves as the most stylistically individual outfit around. in a
time when too many people follow pointless blueprints, this is a
breath of fresh air. watch out for the gotan project, this is only
the beginning.
