Martin æAtjazzÆ Iveson is responsible for the music in the Lara Croft
computer game. Now, when this reviewer read that on the press-release
it almost made me wanna skip over this disc. And guess what? IÆm sooo
glad I didnÆt. Blatantly an escape for Iveson from the manufactury of
muzak that is his day job, this is class indeed. æLabfunkÆ loftily
claims to be almost a new genre in itself a claim that it might just
live up to in so much as itÆs a meld of funk, house, jazz. The jazz
side of things is held in place by northern trad jazz luminary Pete
Wraight most recently of the splendid new album from K7Æs Herbert.
Fender Rhodes, phat bass loops and sweltering drum breaks hoist this
album into the dance music shelf marked Quality, and on this -
AtjazzÆs 2nd LP he is making just the kind of splash to keep us cool
at this summers late-night-lounge-and-pool parties.
