Always a sucker for a set of well-worn puns, the Wee DJ's
new album 'Fear And Lothian' is getting a good review based
on title alone... The first full-fat album from Andrea
Parker's Touchin' Bass imprint, 'Fear And Lothian' is a dark
and reedy trip around Scotland's less salubrious sonic
highways - with the Wee DJ's serving up a steady brew of
noir-electro and semi-abstract beats, that joyfully
disorientates the senses like an Irn Bru binge. Opening with
the claustrophobic sting of 'Breathe', the Wee DJ's soon
open up the horizon through the hip-hop ruminations of '080'
and growling peaks of 'Money'. Very much spinning the
electro-genre off into pleasingly overcast territory, the
likes of 'Wheemyth', 'Shammy' and 'Base' all bless the
listener with chinks of sunlight amongst the slate-grey sky
- with gravelly beats given a seeing to by all manner of
dipping frequencies and rampant bass. Closing with the
gnarled disco of 'Comby'.
