new sector movements is an urban collective formed in the mid 90's
by superman, beatmaster, producer and a&r scout all rolled into one
- i.g. culture. he has created an eclectic underground sound taken
from a variety of influences ranging from afrobeat to jazz-funk to
hip-hop and soul. possessing a vision that is rare amongst the
ever-increasing young producers who're heading for mainstream
credibility and profitability.
ig culture has had plenty of experience when it comes to the
workings of the music industry, having been the creative half of
dynamic hip hop duo dodge city productions nearly a decade ago. new
sector movements started out just like the dodge city crew with
their roots ingrained in hip-hop but through radical teachers like
pete rock (they reminisce over you) and ali shaheed muhammed
(electric relaxation/a tribe called quest). they learnt that there
could be more to their music if they just added certain vital
ingredients that would savour the flavour of the n.s.m. sound in
years to come.
firstly, i.g. culture chose a rare groove appetiser, after which he
has gone onto the main course by sampling and creating jazzier
beats and instrumentals. now n.s.m. are rooted in jazz-funk and
soul rather than the popularised two-step or speed garage, where
their musical tastes are expanding and developing all the time. two
years ago, n.s.m. released a number of bass bumping tunes that got
people jiving till they dropped. their sound was so addictive and
it arrived on the derelict waste ground called dance music with a
huge bang. like a breath of non-polluted air, i.g. culture and his
musical warriors presented the nation with dance floor killers like
"my history (feel the spirit)", "new goya" and "futuristic dancer"
which blew the underground dance scene apart.
