.::.......................................................................::.

kinobe was born on new years day 1998 in a flat on the goldhawk
road in west london. mark blackburn (aka blackie) and julius
waters had known each other since the age of 6 and, despite
spending most of their teenage years apart, had reunited and
rediscovered each otherÆs enthusiasm for great music. before they
     became kinobe, blackie and julius had been childhood playmates;
they grew up in adjacent streets, went to the same primary school
and like most young scamps were often found getting up to mischief
(and it was nearly always when they were together). at the tender
age of thirteen juliusÆ family moved to australia, it was there
that the music bug seriously bit him and he spent the next eight
years undertaking his musical apprenticeship. over the years, the
boys kept in touch - both having a very strong interest in a
musical career and working within their own sound and song related
areas. on his return to london, julius moved in with blackie who
had been busy working as a visual/audio artist spending much of
his time as part of the light surgeons. even after all the years
apart the boys still had so many musical aspirations and tastes in
common and again became inseparable. after much catching up,
kinobe as we know and love it, was born on new years day.

kinobe quickly set about starting work on a demo but so strong was
their drive, enthusiasm, creativity and talent that the tunes just
kept flowing. eventually they had a whole albumsÆ worth and
couldnÆt decide on any particular favourites to send to a&r
departments so they decided to go ahead and send the lot. as a
result they were quickly signed to pepper records (the dance
imprint of jive records), where over the last year they have
released two limited edition epÆs æplanet soupÆ and ægood
migrationsÆ, one single æslip into somethingÆ and more recently
their critically celebrated debut album æsoundphilesÆ.

at the end of 2000 kronenberg chose kinobeÆs first single æslip
into somethingÆ as the theme to their tv adverts that aired over
the christmas and new year period. the duo have also been lending
their seascape sound to some beautiful remixes of artists as
diverse as groove armada, the stone roses, the manic street
preachers and archive. 2001 opened to kinobe releasing the
acclaimed ægrass roots horizonÆ after which they played successful
shows around france and scandinavia. currently, work is almost
finished on their second album for pepper, for release later in
the year. this summer youÆll find them playing live at the
enchanted garden festivals after circumnavigating australia as djs
on the big chill tour. theyÆve begun to enjoy this side of their
work more and more, so, accompanied by their scratch dj woodsman,
kinobe are rolling out their set across the world. as mixmag says,
glorious chill out music worthy of the mighty air or even john
barry. itÆs what summer evenings were made for.
