█ My Life is a typical John Barry score. It has so █
█ much of the things that make John Barry the █
█ composer he is that it is almost stereotypical. █
█ Blessed with a stunning, heartbreaking main theme, █
█ presented in the "Main Title", performed by soft, █
█ sweeping strings, and supported by subtle brass █
█ chords, there is nothing new to find in this █
█ music. It seems as if Barry is going on auto pilot █
█ when writing scores like this, and many will █
█ probably find the music unoriginal and uninspired. █
█ I can understand why, and agree to some degree, █
█ but I like it, neverthless. His music and themes █
█ are quite simple in their construction, one have █
█ to admit that, but there are few scores I'd rather █
█ listen to than Barry's romantic works when I am in █
█ the right mood. My Life is a rather depressing █
█ score, actually, but there are times when this █
█ kind of music is what I yearn for, too... █
█ █
█ Although similiar in style to many of Barry's █
█ grand, sweeping scores, like Dances With Wolves █
█ and Out of Africa, My Life never reaches the power █
█ and grandness found in those scores. It is always █
█ intimate and quiet - sometimes a little too quiet, █
█ perhaps, with soft piano solos, by Michael Lang, █
█ strings and woodwinds, with an occasional French █
█ Horn solo, as well. No Barry score would be █
█ complete without them. And the composers' jazz █
█ background shines through in "Child's Play", with █
█ its groovy piano. █
