Expert Knob Twiddlers is a collaboration with Mike Paradinas (AKA ╡-zig,
Jake Slazenger) who is another doyen of the IDM scene. An altogether
more light-hearted affair, this album also draws comparisons with the
work of Luke Vibert (AKA Plug), who along with Tom Jenkinson (AKA
Squarepusher) completes the gang of JamesÆ friends and fellow æbum and
fartÆ techno-pranksters. This album is a crazy, loungey collection of
ditties with James and Paradinas contributing silly voices which are
twisted all matter of ways, cheesy synths parping and squealing away
and groovy, shuffling beats augmented by samples and loops pulled from
many years gone by. ThereÆs a lot of fun on this album what I think
started out as an off-hand series of experiments for their own amusement
IÆm glad what could have been locked in the legendary Richard James
vault (rumour has it that he has many, many hours of unreleased material
recorded) was allowed to see the light of day. Favourite moments include
æRegÆs syncopated, old-time trip-hop and scat mutterings, and æbu bu bu
baÆ û demented club-closedown muzak while they drag everyone back to
their cells to the sound of a mournful, strangled
