'Beyond Reinforced Jewelcase' is BARR's debut release in
Europe and is described by the man himself as sounding like
"Xiu Xiu on codeine and speed given by a motivational health
guru, perhaps..." His sound goes beyond novel - it's
incomparable - a positive affirmation of life! His beat loops
are lo-fi, his backing is of the underground rock ilk, only
played out on xylophone and piano. And over the top of this
Brendan holds articulate dialogues with himself, rhythmic but
not exactly rap, inciteful and imaginative, yet not exactly
poetry or spoken word.
No outsider in the US underground, BARR has toured with Ian
MacKaye's THE EVENS, runs his own amazing label DOGGPONY,
joins LE TIGRE's JD Sampson in new cult pop group NEW ENGLAND
ROSES and even played in an embryonic ANIMAL COLLECTIVE at
high school! The record will be out in mid-November, along
with a CD version on 5 RUE CHRISTINE stateside.
