Long before there was Death In June or Current 93, Changes was
creating what was to become later known as "apocalyptic folk".
Changes existed during the late 60s - early 70s in America, and
reformed in the mid 90s due to the encouragement of Michael Moynihan
from Blood Axis. This album was originally released on Storm Records
/ Cthulha Records, but has became pretty difficult to find so I am
grateful for this reissue on Der Blutharsch's Hau Ruck! label. Their
sound probably will be too vintage for most of you all to appreciate
on these recordings, but Changes are still active in the neofolk genre.
This CD comes in a digipak and a nice booklet with lyrics and
information on what all the lyrics to each track is about.
The only problem about this CD is the song "Fire of Life" includes a
little glinch in the audio at 0:35. This noise isn't a ripping error,
it appears on the actual audio when I play the CD in a computer or a
stereo. I guess its the result of bad mastering or pressing, but its
a shame since that song is such a beautiful track. I own the 7"
vinyl also, and don't recall hearing it on there.
This album is extracted from vintage analog open reel recordings
(1969-1974), never before released to the public. The tracks were
compiled, remastered and edited by Michael Moynihan and Robert
Taylor in October 1994.
