Following the huge underground success of the label's debut release,
''The Cure and the Cause'', Go Deep returns with another vocal gem
for it's second outing in the company of an old school singer
songwriter called Mary Cigarettes.
Mary Cigarettes is a real outsider with a deep love for soul music
and vocalists in the vein of Nina Simone, Gil Scott Heron and John
Martyn. He has a sensationally sordid past in pop music too, but
would only tell you about that if you pinned him up against the wall
and threatened him....he enjoys that sort of thing. A little bit mad
perhaps, and you're more likely to find this odd beast talking about
music all night in a Soho coffee shop, rather than in any club.
Mary Cigarettes collaborated with Fish Go Deep over a whole body of
work, recording vocal melodies and lyrics from his own studio near
London. He would then send this work over to Cork where Fish Go Deep
would develop it into a finished record. Musically it was a lot of
fun to bring these two fairly different worlds together, and the end
result is something both parties are very proud off.
If the all-important music lovers enjoy this first release,''Chemical
God'', there's a small chance there'll be another dance track later
on, or even a full album of their work together called ''Deep
Cigarettes''.
