The first in a proposed series, Spectral Sound
Presents hands over its first catalogue number to Cologne's RenΘ
Breitbarth and Bodycode; the former of which is one of the key
proponents of deep and funk-fuelled journeys into the minimalism. As
a close sibling to the more high-profile Ghostly International,
Spectral is a sister label that is no way overshadowed by its older
brother - forging an increasingly impressive set of releases from a
pool of talent that can happily accommodate the likes of Breitbarth
(also the founder the Treibstoff imprint). Startling you into
attention with a slap of funky bass, the A kicks off with 'Tales From
The Light Side'; wherein Breitbarth proffers a hot and sticky smudge
of sliced house that is the polar opposite of most releases that have
'funk' and 'house' anywhere near them. With 'Steam Machine' in
similar territory, the B-side goes to Ghostly stalwart The Mole and
his retool of Bodycode's 'Hands Free Computer Interface' - a thumping
flash of tech tooled muscularity.
