About Gerry Weil:
Gerry Weil was born in Vienna, Austria, August 11, 1939. His
contact with the jazz comes by the presence of the American army in
the region where he lived. The north American troops, take him to
know Glenn Miller, swing and the music of the afroamerican people.
Nevertheless his formation begins in his second country, Venezuela
(since 1957). At the age of 17, he began to take classes with
professional musicians. He forms by a self-taught education, takes
courses by correspondence from Boston (Berklee College of Music).
His professional activity has been developed in Venezuela, in spite
of some appearances in Colombia, with the Municipal Band. Between
1974 and 1981 lives an experience of spiritual and musical
isolation in Merida, in that time he fuses the music of Bach in
piano and other Hindu spiritual musical forms like Ragas. At the
end of this isolation, he returns to Caracas and begins to combine
his presentations with one of the tasks that Gerry Weil has
developed more, teaching.
In 1983 he dedicated to elaborate his music with electronic
instruments using the MIDI technology , performance that carries
out his race by several years and that consecrate him as pioneering
in the handling of these technologies in Venezuela. After surpassed
this stage Gerry Weil returns to his more acoustic and real style
music. He has been also the producer of 2 discs, Maria Rivas and
Desorden Publico (1990), and has participated in other musical
productions.
About Pablo Gil:
Pablo Gil studied flute and saxophone in Venezuela, France and the
USA. He obtained the gold medal in saxophone at the Conservatoire
National de Paris, the Premier Prix de Saxophone de la Vεlle de
Paris and an MA in Jazz Performance at the University of New York.
Gil has recorded with the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Chico O'Farrill
Big Band, John Benφtez, Steve Turre, Brian Lynch, Ron Carter, Dan
Carrillo, "Patato" ValdΘs, HΘctor Martignon, Juan Pablo Torres,
"Tata" Guines, "Changuito" Chocolate Armenteros, "Anga" Dφaz,
Camilo Azuquita, Herve Selling, Franτois Jenny Clark, Mario Rivera,
Papo Vßzquez, Michael Mossman, Soledad Bravo, AndrΘs Brice±o, Julio
Mendoza, Grupo Cimarr≤n, Leo Blanco, Victor Mestas, Orlando Poleo y
su Orquesta Chaworo, among others. Gil has participated in
festivals at the French Cultural Centre of Abidjan; Birdland,
Knitting Factory, Studio 54 in New York, BarranquiJazz Festival
1999, Barraquilla; Ronnie Scott's and Jazz CafΘ, London; World
Exhibition 1998, Lisbon; Marciac and Vaness Jazz Festivals, 1998;
Jazz Festival of Boudroum, Turkey; and St. Louis Jazz Festival '97
