One of the most important Brazilian drummers in the 20th century,
Luciano was the son of maetro Luφs Perrone and pianist NoΩmia
Perrone. He first tasted stardom at age 9, when he shared the stage
with Italian tenor Enrico Caruso, who performed Brazil in 1917. He
dropped out of the bel canto lessons when his father died. Luciano
started out as a drummer and percussionist in 1922, becoming a
member of various orchestras. Perrone was turned famous in 1927,
when he innovated the samba beat in recording sessions at Odeon,
with Simon Bountman's orchestra, proceeding to build up a solid
career as a drummer. He met maestro RadamΘs Gnattali by the 30s,
and the both developed strong friendship bonds that lasted through
the 50s. In 1963, Perrone released the album "Batucada Fantßstica",
presenting exemples of a wide range of Brazilian rhythms, such as
maracatu, baiπo, maxixe, afoxΘ and, of course, samba. He retired in
1968, but made the album "Batucada Fantßstica Vol. 3" in 1972.
