Release Notes:
Three previously unrecorded works: a string quartet from Chick
Corea and one from John Harbison, and a piano quintet by Marc
Neikrug with Neikrug at the piano. None of the pieces are
overbearing, and The Orion String Quartet bring a freshness and
sophistication to the works in their vibrant and virtuostic
performances. The Orion String Quartet is an extremely active
ensemble working in the United States, with numerous commissions
from composers Chick Corea, Alexander Goehr, Leon Kirchner, Marc
Neikrug, Peter Lieberson, and enjoy a creative partnership with
the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company. They have worked with
such legendary figures as Pablo Casals, Rudolf Serkin, Isaac
Stern, Pinchas Zukerman, Yo-Yo Ma, Peter Serkin, Andrßs Schiff,
members of TASHI and the Beaux Arts Trio, as well as the Budapest,
VΘgh, Galimir and Guarneri String Quartets, and are the
Quartet-in-Residence at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln
Center and New York's Mannes College of Music.
