Ok-Ma are Younglee and Jake Sax. They met whilst playing as part of
D'Nell at Manchester's Electric Chair, they shared the hotel room.
Young was walking like a cowboy in the morning. Jake joined Young at
his DJ gigs playing sax and flute over Young's beats a firm musical
partnership was formed. Featuring various vocalists, this project is
a fusion of funk, soul, r&b and afro/broken rubs, it soon developed
into a live stage act. R2 (BBE) will be releasing their full album
next year. This year will also see their singles released by
Liverpool's Sick Trumpet. This 12" starts with the original London
lick, featuring Jamaican singer Stuey Love, this track is a stormer,
mixing big room afro-house with a perfect Jamaican vibe. Test proofed
on the dancefloor, this is seriously heavy. On A2, Jake & Younglee go
deep and dubby, afro and house with the Baby Blue dub. Bennson (the
cat behind Australia's hottest label Equatorial Records) is on remix
duty on the flip. He delivers a tight deep house mix that definitely
reminds us of the soulful Jimpster sounds with a touch of Simbad.
Finally B2 sees the first broken beat track to make it on Still
Music, OK-Ma went back in the studio to drop this mad boogie breaks
version. Fans of the West London sound get ready!
