What began in 2001 as a solo home taping project by John Totten with the help of
longtime friend and recluse collaborator Mason Neely quickly turned into a
nationwide effort involving over fourteen musicians including siblings and
lifelong friends. The first album, Your Inner Ear, was released in 2004 on the
Chattanooga, TN based label In Advance. Your Inner Ear defined the groups sound
as nuanced, low-fi indie pop. The conglomerate of Quiet Ones soon put out a
volume two, comprised of songs composed by Ryan Dixon. After stints in four
cities spanning from Tennessee to Seattle, The Quiet Ones are now releasing an
EP, Nite You Surprised Me, five songs composed by John and his brother David,
recorded via mail with the wunderkind Neely. The EP, which will be released on
Firefly Sessions, is a new direction for the Quiet Ones whose abilities to
compose, arrange and record at home expand exponentially with each record.
