Release Notes:
Because of his pristine sound and his melodic
approach. Jimmy Raney is sometimes pigeonholed as a
cool guitarist. But if cool implies a lack of
emotion, that word is misleading. Raney knew how to
dig deep without breaking a sweat, and how to say a
lot with just a few notes. On these 1956 sessions,
he has the perfect foil in valve trombonist Bobby
Brookmeyer, a kindred spirit who also understood
that less can be more.
