Virgin release for the newly minted Yesternow Recordings,
'From Eden, Home & In Between' is a gorgeously packaged 10"
from Brighton-based Shoreline - a UK/Italio duo who wear their
Newsom, Bunyan and Nadler badges with pride. Counting
guitarist Tom Cowan and Italian-born vocalist Beatrice Sanjust
as their creative core, Shoreline bolster their ebbing breed
of songwriting with a host of instrumentally-minded cohorts
who provide a textured cowl of acoustic guitar, harps,
bouzouki, and xylophone on which to project the gorgeous,
honey-glazed vocals. Opening with 'Lightening', Shoreline
issue a startlingly raw edict on the power of bare-bones
songwriting - with little more than Sanjust's voice, a gentle
guitar and half-glimpsed xylophone managing to coalesce into
the kind of British Folk that appeals well beyond the genre's
boundaries and leaks charm from every groove. From here on it
just gets better by the moment, with the gorgeous EP highlight
'Kings' sprinkling some brain-snagging melodies atop the
pink-blushed instrumentation, whilst 'Shipwrecked' allows the
his+hers vocals to entwine amongst bubbling acoustica and 'A
Second Thought' sees you out on a buoyant flush of trite
solipsism. Everyone and anyone who's heard this is getting
weak at the knees, the likes of Rough Trade already hailing
this is an indispensible gem, for our money it's surely one of
the debut's of the year. Unmissable.
