Release Notes:

Here is another band that i wish i had discovered much
sooner, but since this is only ColtÆs debut album i guess
I cannot really blame myself so much. However, this is all
the more reason to listen as often as possible and tell
everybody about it. You all need to go to the store and
buy this cd, order it on the net or find another way to be
able to enjoy this band. There is no way you could get
around the debut album of this British ensemble.

After it appeared that ôLiving with Eating Disordersö was
a name that was a bit too controversial, Jared Hawkes,
Mark Bishop and Andrea Kerr got back together again and
named themselves ôColtö. John Fryer (o.a. Nine inch nails,
Depeche mode, This mortal coil) discovered their
enthusiastically received epÆs and now they present us
ôThese things canÆt hurt you now, so throw them in the
fireö. On this album it seems like they found the right
balance between background music and music to which you
really want to pay attention. Deep and compelling ambient,
folky guitars that sound fiercely divine yet somewhat
bluesy. There is absolutely no escaping Andrea with her
Nina Persson kind of voice, taking you to other places.
Unfortunetely I do miss some real hits on this cd, none of
these songs ever lingers in your head after youÆve been
listening to this album. There is also not much variation
between the songs itself, thatÆs why it is al bit too much
one piece instead of several songs and it even gets a
little boring after a while. I must say that the
structures and patterns are very interesting because the
artist didnÆt cling themselves to the standard shape of
couplet/refrain/bridge like in ôDemon in the wheelsö and
ôI talk to godö.

If youÆre fond of ôMassive Attackö and/or ôPortisheadö you
might very well get enthusiastic about this band.
Therefore there is not a doubt in my mind that when given
the right amount of promotion Colt could get really far,
and I certainly expect to be able to check them out at a
few festivals some time soon.
