The Maryland based Four Fifty One are hesitant to define their influences,
though their playlists range from Wilson Pickett to The Doors, and Strokes on
one day, to the Velvet Underground, Joy Division or The Shins the next. The four
piece is 70's indie garage meets retro-80's nu' rock filled out with smart and
pointed lyrics. Drew Robinson's vocal style and on-stage persona is both
visually and sonically captivating, if not Jagger-esque. Drummer Yanni Gianarros
together with guitarist Chris Frazier and bassist Marquis Hudson lay down
Motownish licks and grooves that stick in the heads of even the most discerning
music critics.
With songs about wronged lovers on Socks and Shoes, to caricatures of image
obsessed girls who spend too much time in tanning beds on Orange Shell
Breakdown, the college-aged group is amassing quite a fanbase. The debut was
recorded by Adam Moseley (The Cure, Nikka Costa, John Cale) at Dragonfly Studios
in Northern Virginia and mixed at Dust Brothers' Boat Studio, Silverlake, CA.
Four Fifty One recently earned a spot at the Zig Zag Live Showcase during CMJ's
Music Marathon.
