Excellent new CD from this long-time VT fave and his first
ever non-Japanese release. Higuchi has a way of breathing life
into the most forlorn torch-songs and Venusian blues forms
that touches on the same kind of unearthly space whisper that
Patty Waters employed on the first side of her debut ESP-Disk,
Sings. As a guitarist he comes out of the Mazzacane school,
particularly the kind of frail, cinematic miniatures that
Mazzacane was dealing in circa Hell's Kitchen Park, but his
use of silence and the absolute intensity he manages to invest
every still second with owes as much to the kind of tense
subdivision of space practiced by fellow Japanese underground
artists like Kaoru Abe, Masayoshi Urabe, Taku Sugimoto and
Mochizuki Harutaka. This is a very beautiful, poetic,
melancholic set that rewards countless repeat spins. Highly
recommended. - volcanic tongue
Higuchi's music manifests a unique and singular conception. It
breathes slowly, almost to the point of stillness, an eerie
voice and flinty guitar searching for quiet revelation.
