This 9-track CD from Peter Wright is absolutely lovely.
Drifting ambient sounds, layers and washes of guitar and a
very soothing feel make this an album that you should
investigate if you're into any of the Kranky releases or even
the work of William Basinski. Very beautiful, very highly
recommended

New Zealand ex-pat Peter Wright is something of a legend in
the drone scene, paving the way for fellow experimenters
Birchville Cat Motel and the Double Leopards, Wright has been
busying himself for over 10 years now releasing cdrs and cds
on a variety of different labels. æRed LionÆ is his finest
release yet and sees him taking his patented subtle drones
into a more narrative territory, exploring the world around
him with field recordings. These recordings add a depth to
what could have been a simple drone record, and give the
tracks a haunting space around the swathes of guitar noise.
It's almost as if youÆre travelling with Wright himself when
you listen to the music, as if he was playing in a farm or in
the middle of a field, lightly bowing his Danelectro 12-string
in front of your very eyes. If you were lucky enough to pick
up the æWith Throats as Fine as NeedlesÆ release recently then
youÆll likely know the direction in which this is going. Deep,
spiritual and engrossing, Wright has forged yet another fine
record and another key addition to the rapidly growing
Digitalis catalogue.
Highly recommended!
