Release Notes:
From San Francisco The Waybacks a five piece band
that display an amazing range of styles and musical
dexterity. Featuring Stevie Coyle (guitar and
vocals), James Nash (lead guitar, mandolin &
vocals), Joe Kyle Jr (double-bass, vocals), Chuck
Hamilton (drums) and Warren Hood (fiddle) - the
songwriting duties are shared between Coyle and Nash
plus there are several covers. This record has been
produced by legendary producer Lloyd Maines and
there's a mix of styles from country rock, fiddle
waltz (Bluebird Waltz), a Kinks cover (Motorway - a
song about life on the road converted to the
Interstate Highways of the US - with a tuba thrown
in for good measure) and a jazz tinged rumba on
Chick Corea's 'Armando's Rhumba'.
Despite the mix of influences and sounds, this is a
very original record, at times sounding like the
much ignored Bonepony on the instrumental 'Hot
Kranski' - there is very little to compare with this
unique record. It never loses its way and on James
Nash's 'Ninety One' featuring Lloyd Maines on dobro
shows that they can tackle some serious themes about
growing up - this is a fabulous song and
demonstrates that the band not only possess great
musicians but also they have the ability to write
some excellent songs from their own pens. Unlike
many albums The Waybacks save the best to last on
the superb instrumental Stevie Coyle song 'Strange
Attractor'. Overall a superb record.
